Mention wardrobes to some people and they will simply think of that functional, rectangular wooden thing standing in their bedroom where they hang up some clothes. Mention it to others, and the fantastical world of Narnia and Aslan comes to mind.
If you are in the latter category, it does not just mean you enjoyed reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis in your younger years. It means that the spirit of imagination and creativity is still there now.
This should offer an extra reason to design your own wardrobe online using our special tool. While some might use this in a more functional way to maximise space, incorporate a modern design style, or shape it to accommodate a particular category of clothing items they have a lot of, you can make the room look quite exceptional in another way.
You can do this according to your own tastes, or perhaps, if you have children, you can design something that they would love.
How Far Can You Go?
If you really are a CS Lewis fan, you could actually take this theme the whole way. The idea of a wardrobe being a portal to Narnia is an exciting one – and who didn’t try this as a kid, just to see if it was true?
Of course, you won’t be leaving our world, but if you are designing a walk-in wardrobe, you could always create a hidden compartment, making it a place for a bit of fantasy or even somewhere to hide away. If you do, however, check that this doesn’t become self-defeating by using up space that you actually need for storing clothes.
There are many other themes you could build around. For instance, Doctor Who fans might like the idea of making the inside of the wardrobe look a bit like the TARDIS, although, once again, you will need to make a concession to reality, as, much as you may wish it so, it will not be bigger on the inside than the outside.
Don’t Forget The Quality Of Materials
Nonetheless, an interesting design will be a great way of jazzing up your wardrobe. Do not forget, however, the very high quality of materials we supply. There won’t be any of the wobbly, low-grade sets like Doctor Who had back in the 1980s.
The right way to proceed is to use the tool with the materials in mind. There are obviously some constraints in play, not just in terms of the absence of Time Lord technology or portals to Narnia. You will also still need to work within the dimensions of the space where the wardrobe will go and consider exactly what it is you want to store in it.
However, what you can do is create a space that suits the extra elements you might want to add. For example, A Star Trek fan might want to add some strips of LED lights inside to provide the effect of all the bleeping and flashing lights on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. If you have a couple of fancy dress Enterprise crew uniforms in there, better still.
Indeed, if you are into cosplaying in a big way, you may find the theme works particularly well by designing and decorating the wardrobe in a way that aligns with your outfits.
A Wardrobe For Hobbits?
In the same way, you can adapt the internal design to a range of other fictional stories and themes. For example, you could design a rounded door that looks like the entrance to a Hobbit house in The Lord of the Rings, or simply decorate a large space, such as on a door, with symbols or images relating to the story in question.
Another very simple way to make it easier to produce a theme is to have lots of hooks on which to hang decorations to make up the décor. Of course, wardrobes are all about hanging things, but in this case, it is about small things around the periphery, which means they won’t get in the way of all the suits, shirts, blouses and ties you are storing.
Bring Your Creativity To Life
The key point here is to match your creativity with the practical use of a wardrobe. Any wardrobe can store clothes, but by applying your own design, you can personalise and stylise it in a way that makes it so much more than a functional item.
In doing so, you can impress visitors and, if applying the theme to a kids’ bedroom, it can maintain a theme that can carry over from other elements such as themed wallpaper, bedclothes, rugs and lamps.
When you have the design tool at your fingertips, a great deal is possible, even if that doesn’t include passing through the wardrobe to Narnia.
